Researchers are asking why some countries were better prepared for Covid: Trust
- uniqueuid 5y agoVery interesting study. I really like the very detailed list of data sources in table 1. But. Look at the corrected confidence intervals for predictors on page 18. There are almost no (!) significant predictors at all. Yes, trust (in government and interpersonal) is a predictor for absolute fatalities, but practically all the other variables are not significant. There are also no significant predictors of infection fatality ratio. The primary message of this study - to me - is that it's really, really complicated. Even if you look at this many countries over this long period of time, it's impossible to come up with a single easy explanation. (And I don't consider trust to be a simple explanation because it is highly correlated with may other attitudinal, ideological and other factors.)
- raxxorrax 5y agoProblem is the data itself I would assume. Different way how data is acquired differs even between hospitals. Only if you know the local circumstances the data can be correctly normalized.
