The US Refuses to Fall in Love with Electric Cars
- raxxorrax 5y agoEV cars surpassed diesel cars in Europe because diesel cars are mostly bought by companies. For most other people they have been a bad deal for a long time even before EVs actually hit the market. Companies don't care about the car prices because they are almost entirely tax deductible. They have private charger stations and like the eco image that comes with the cars. There is also legal uncertainty because some diesel cars are not allowed to drive into the city anymore. Your employer either has a charging station or you have one on your own property. Not difficult to see that a lot of people cannot afford an EV and have no way to arrange sensible charging. We had electric busses for a while that were quite awesome. They were scrapped because their reliability rate was at ~95% while diesel busses were at 98%. Subsidies would have made sense here since they provide so many secondary benefits like being more silent and less polluting. But even here EV were rejected after a while.
