Bill Maher's entire identity, personality and profession is "pushing back" on anyone he sees. The man is a professional contrarian.

  Nothing wrong with being a contrarian, per se, but this jumped out at me: "They drilled mercury into my teeth when I was a child. Now, of course, we don't do that anymore, but do you really think in 50 years people will look back and say, 'Oh, yeah, we had it all figured out in 2022'? No, they will be appalled at things we're doing right now." As of 2017, the EPA stated that mercury from dentists' offices was the main source of mercury discharges into public sewage treatment plants. They estimate over 100,000 dental offices "use or remove amalgam" that contains mercury. The total amount of waste is estimated at over 5 tons. The EPA would really like it if dentists could please install mechanisms to separate out the mercury from other waste. It is entirely fair and honest to say that Fauci has not been the most effective communicator throughout this pandemic. From his self-professed “noble lies” to his hair-splitting over what constitutes “gain of function” it’s not hard to see why many people don’t trust him. At least with politicians like Trump and Biden people don’t “expect” the truth, but when folks like Fauci claim to be above the bullshit, they better be prepared to actually be above the bullshit, otherwise they will be judged far more harshly than those who proudly wallow in it.

Wow, that was exceptionally well-stated. he defanged the majority of people who would verbally disagree with him with carefully stated conditions. And points out that the establishment has been entirely too self-confident wtihout expressing the limits of its knowledge. It's pretty clear at this point, with the nature of omicron, that we will now be transitioning to an entirely new phase where large numbers of people ignore public health officials because they focus entirely too much on the most vulnerable at the expense of the mostly robust.
