How is this interesting for Hacker News? Also, 'thousands' is a small number.
- smt88 5y agoIt's very relevant for a lot of US companies, including mine, who have software developers and other tech workers in Ukraine. One of my tech leads is in eastern Ukraine and I'm very worried about him and his family. His wife has a chronic illness and losing access to good hospitals would be devastating.
- GekkePrutser 5y agoIsn't Eastern Ukraine already a warzone due to the rebel attacks? This is what I gathered from the reporting around the time MH17 went down. However I know the news can sensationalise things so this is why it's nice to hear personal experiences.
- raxxorrax 5y agoThere are still separatists in south eastern Ukraine. They did down the MH17 because it flew through airspace the separatists had restricted but Ukraine did not. They first thought to have downed an Ukrainian military plane and advertised this fact on social media. It often isn't called a civil war because the Kremlin uses the conflict to question the legitimacy of the current Ukrainian government.
- bloqs 5y agoIndirect relevance and maybe direct because Russia and Ukraine both are disproportionately relevant to the world of security. The activities in this article will imply impact on cyber posture too, and an impact on people and tech companies working in Ukraine of which there are many.
- macilacilove 5y agoMaybe I agree with the cyber warfare, but there is no indication that these people are going to be involved in cyber warfare, let alone change the outcome. This news is very analogous to "thousands registered to vote whatever party in the US elections".
