Corporate lobbying undermined the EU’s push to ban surveillance ads
- raxxorrax 5y agoI feel that corporations have much more access to EU institutions than commoners. And you can expect the the EU will also increase surveillance of its citizens. Tracking isn't needed for advertising and only the largest players will benefit if the industry remains unregulated. It might also disallow anonymous usage for large platforms (> 45 million users). That is a huge step back for a free internet and only helps the large players that want to sell their bad identity platforms. The state cannot shield users against abuse, anonymity mitigates data leaks very effectively. For people putting themselves out there other rules apply. That said, the parliament is at least thinking about defending anonymity now. That would be a huge improvement. But I only believe it when it is done. Empty promises are numerous and cheap.
