The War on Disinformation Is Dead
- benpiper 5y agoThe very term "disinformation" is problematic because people use it too loosely. Disinformation is another word for propaganda, or information intended to deceive. The author of the post seems to use it correctly. But people often use the term as a pejorative for any information that goes against their groupthink, regardless of whether the information is true or false. In the latter case, they're actually using the term "disinformation" as propaganda, ironically. The same is true of the term "fact check," which many of us identified as a red flag for propaganda years ago when it first started appearing.
- purplepatrick 5y agoI think this post is fake news ;)
- raxxorrax 5y agoThe Russian collusion story was disinformation and with few exceptions a lot of the established media played along like a good dog. Not worth to read. Some "official" news also misinformed on Covid related development. I don't care about internet conspiracies, but I do care if a political class employs them to silence dissent. One thing is relevant, the other is not.
