Long Covid: probably worth avoiding–some considerations
- NicoJuicy 5y agoWhile this article makes no difference between delta and omicron. It does make a interesting point about "death rate" after surviving COVID within 6 months. Which i haven't thought about before.
- raxxorrax 5y agoReading the part arguing against long covid being a psychosomatic phenomenon did make me believe some of it might be and a lot of it is due to other health concerns and the attention the disease is getting. Although a psychiatrist could answer it better. A is that the symptoms of it are very unspecific, hair loss to cite the funniest. I don't want to cite studies anymore, but there is data that ~50% of those that were unknowingly infected (only later proved by blood test) had mild Long Covid symptoms, ~8% to a medium degree and 1.5% to a heavy degree. But there was also a study that asked people if their health declined in the last 2 years. 22% of people not infected said it did decline compared to 22.4% that said the same and had a Covid infection (both cases confirmed by blood tests). That said, it wouldn't be unusual to have a neurological effect. Same suspicion was true for the Zirka-, West-Nile- or Dengue-virus. The recommendation to avoid it certainly hold true in any case.
