Popeyes Chicken Announces Agreement to Launch in South Korea
- dexwiz 5y agoCan anyone living in SK share some info on their views of Fried Chicken? In San Francisco half of the new Korean restaurants are actually Fried Chicken restaurants. They are really good, but as someone from Indiana its kind of like eating New York Pizza in Italy.
- wrp 5y agoChicken+beer is by far the most popular type of restaurant in SK. The only thing more common is coffee shops. It is, I think, also the most popular food for catering and delivery. Korean fried chicken is rather different from American. They use tiny birds and the coating doesn't seem to have any seasoning. Flavor comes from a choice of dipping sauces. KFC is in SK, but I don't see many of them. Unless Popeyes offers beer, I don't see them taking the market by storm.
- dexwiz 5y agoYeah I have noticed the breading is different than traditional Southern Fried Chicken. Usually there's a garlic soy sauce and some spicy sauce made with gochugaru. Also the pieces are more like what Americans would call chicken tenders opposed to whole thighs, breasts, and drumsticks. So I guess the restaurants here are pretty consistent with what you describe.
