FDA will permanently allow abortion pills by mail. But that's a crime in Texas
- Spivak 5y ago> State Rep. Stephanie Klick, a Republican from Fort Worth, co-authored the law, and said it would help protect women. This would be funny if it wasn’t so depressing. Won’t anyone think of these vulnerable women who have had to see an out of state doctor to receive their specifically requested medical care? Surely the only way they can be protected is to put up — can we call a spade a spade — completely arbitrary hoops for them to jump through in order to get medical care they’re legally entitled to. Abortion is murder is one of those arguments that although I disagree I can at least respect that it’s logically consistent — but trying to swing this law as somehow protecting the women getting abortions is just some mouth sounds this rep heard on Twitter and thought sounded good. Because let me tell you, before I and every other woman I know make medical decisions we run them by the Texas state legislature to make sure they’re safe.
- mike00632 5y ago"abortion is murder" is not logically consistent. The same people who wish to protect heartbeats, fingernails and hair will happily end heartbeats and eat other animals that are far more developed than an embryo. Not to mention the whole idea that the woman could be considered a human with a heartbeat and other bodily development, yet they don't get consideration.
- Spivak 5y agoThis is how I personally see the issue but you are nonetheless manufacturing an inconsistent interpretation of someone else's view. To be charitable you need to present the best version of their stance. Unless you happen to know that the source of someone's pro-life stance is because they believe that all life deserves to be protected then you can't declare them inconsistent -- they could just as easily believe that only human life matters which is perfectly consistent.
- mike00632 5y ago> ...nonetheless manufacturing an inconsistent interpretation of someone else's view... The viability of the fetus and the sanctity of human life are cornerstones of the pro-life movement. I'm not "manufacturing" this argument. It's plastered on billboards and spouted by most all anti-abortion activists. Furthermore, I used to believe this nonsense myself. It's a reflection of what I used to think, not some imaginary political opponent.
- gamechangr 5y agoThis sounds like when Hillary supporters would say "How does trump supporters believe everything he says?" Trump supporters would say "How does Hillary supporters believe she isn't a liar?" Turns out --- both Hillary and Trump supporters didn't believe everything they said.

- mrlonglong 5y agoDoesn't federal law preempt state law?
