The world wide survival rate is around 2%. So for every 50 people who are infected, only 1 will die.
So the stories are the exception.
However, they're also very common.
If 1 out of every 50 people who ate at a McDonald's in America died, 50,000 people would die every day [https://financesonline.com/number-of-mcdonalds-in-north-america/ https://financesonline.com/number-of-mcdonalds-in-north-amer...].
- stephen_g 5y agoI assume you meant mortality rate, not survival rate there.
- nradov 5y agoThe world wide infection fatality rate is nowhere near 1 in 50. The CDC estimated the US fatality rate at 0.6% back when hardly anyone was vaccinated, and Americans have worse survival rates than most other countries due to having a relatively old and unhealthy population.
- etchalon 5y agoThe CDC did not estimate a 0.6% fatality. I have no idea why you think they did, but that never happened.
- nradov 5y agoPlease stop spreading misinformation. The CDC absolutely did estimate a 0.6% infection fatality rate. https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/cases-updates/burden.html https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/cases-updates/burd...
