That's the important bit. Government can't do such a thing, but a public company can - it's not restrained by the Bill of Rights. Even though courts have voided the order, they can't tell companies what to do and in effect the courts' decision is being ignored. This precedent is dangerous. Soon all these corps demand to get a booster every 6 months (regardless of whether you gobto office) and you'll have to comply, unless you're rich.
- smt88 5y agoHow is this different from college campuses and the military requiring vaccines for many decades now?
- GoOnThenDoTell 5y agoIt’s much a lot more difficult to leave the military or change colleges than it is to get another job after Google, so Google actually has a lot less leverage here
- chickenpotpie 5y agoWhere is vaccinations mentioned anywhere in the bill of rights?
- hulitu 5y agoDon't worry. Google will sell this data to government.
- dekhn 5y agoThe US government has an absolute right to require vaccines in emergency situations, period. That was addressed by the supreme court multiple times.
- akomtu 5y agoIn this was the case, the gov would've just done that: ordered citizens, not companies, to vax up. But the gov isn't dumb: they knew such an order would be struck down by a federal judge in a matter of days. That's why they this clever truck with companies.
- dekhn 5y agoJacobson v. Massachusetts. States have a constitutional right to enforce vaccines for public health reasons. The current supreme court would uphold that decision. https://www.scotusblog.com/2021/10/court-turns-away-religious-challenge-to-maines-vaccine-mandate-for-health-care-workers/ https://www.scotusblog.com/2021/10/court-turns-away-religiou... more generally, the police powers of a state exceed that of individual liberty in emergency situations. otherwise, the state loses its ability to handle existential crises.
- akomtu 5y agoThat's not an emergency situation.
- asteroidbelt 5y agoExcept in this case it is not emergency. Same as flu each year is not an emergency.
