Average person just as smart as brain surgeons and aerospace engineers
- nradov 5y agoPeople generally overestimate the impact of intelligence. In most fields of human endeavor, intelligence doesn't matter beyond a certain minimal level. At least it's less important than other qualities such as discipline and persistence.
- jfengel 5y agoWe also associate intelligence with certain prestigious specialties, while problems of equal difficulty get less respect. Physicists in particular seem to be thought of as "the smartest people on earth". You can't be dumb in that field, but it doesn't require superhuman intelligence. It's just a specialty in which they had an interest, which allows them to spend the years of effort catching up to the state of the art.
