It's 2024, Omega variant has just landed, NYTimes screams of societal collapse, Pfizer CEO says 10th booster may be needed.
Meanwhile Standford researchers reiterate that the "fatality rates for those < 70 years ranges from 0.00% to 0.31%, with crude and corrected medians of 0.05%"[0]. And that study is from before the vaccine was even globally administered. How much lower is it now? Clearly the virus has become endemic and this is just a money grab.

- Spivak 5y agoLet’s ignore that almost 800,000 people have died of the vid in the US since you consider those acceptable losses. There are non-death outcomes that you should be worried about — the scariest one to me is that all food will taste rotten. A close friend of mine was unlucky enough to have it happen to her. She’s now dangerously underweight, suicidal, and is narrowly avoiding a feeding tube. Her Doctors say it will probably go away with time but they’re really just guessing. Her daily routine is forcing down the highest calorie milkshake she can make and just suffering through the exhaustion and hunger because eating is worse.
- raxxorrax 5y agoIn the US there are annually 250,000 people dying from treatment errors. Those are apparently acceptable losses too, which could be vastly eliminated by better funding and work distribution. This number is based on a questionable extrapolation and may be exaggerated, but the point remains. Of course we still continue with conventional medicine despite the negatives. But I think we should talk about about how we let Covid fears dictate our lives. I mean it is still a far better balance sheet than the fight against terror, but at some point reflection is needed.
