this killed my browser history, wtf?
- chungy 5y agoBasically why I always use the middle mouse button to open links ;)
- lproven 5y agoExactly so, yes!
- pjc50 5y agoLike many of the more "helpful" browser APIs, the ability to alter history is easily abused. It should never have been allowed to edit cross site history.
- comprambler 5y agoI had to go back 9 “pages” to get back to hn. I guess LJ is just trash now.
- mattowen_uk 5y agoNone of that happened to me. HN was one click on the back button. That said, agreed - LJ is trash.
- dan_linder 5y agoWhen I first saw the complaint about LJ, I first thought was "LinuxJournal" And I had to do a double take on the URL. This URL is "LiveJournal", for anyone coming across this thread later. Hijacking the back button is never a good idea...
- zerocount 5y agoI didn't know Livejournal was still around.
- lproven 5y ago[Blog post author here] It never went away. I've had my main blog there since 2002 and tech one since 2006. It works, it's free. I don't have a paid account and never have, and I do not see the problems people mention because I have a working ad-blocker. I am sorry for those who don't.
- mananaysiempre 5y agoAmong other things, it used to be fairly widely employed by Russian-speaking users until the government crackdown and mass comment spam in the mid-2010s. Essentially, the older generation skipped Wordpress, Blogger, MySpace, Google+, and many others and went from LiveJournal straight to Facebook and later to Telegram (the younger generation went from VK to Telegram).
- kreeben 5y agoPretty much same here. With just one click I found myself being seven clicks away from HN. Using WaterFox.
- winrid 5y agoFWIW works fine on Chrome @ Android
