Pfizer CEO says fourth vaccine shot may eventually be needed

- rogerkirkness 5y agomRNA needs to figure out a better T cell response.
- smt88 5y agoMixing an mRNA vaccine with a booster like J&J seems to give much better, lasting T cell protection. He admits that this is his prediction and not yet based on data. His company stands to earn billions from further boosters. We shouldn't take his comments as anything other than marketing, and we should wait for an actual neutral scientific body to weigh in when the data set is larger.

- hncurious 5y agoIs big pharma transitioning to the SaaS business model? I worry about the incentives here.
- cute_boi 5y agothat is not only issue here. Pharma are provided with immunity and they are known to extort other government too. Imagine giving cash, power and immunity to these mammoths.
- barbacoa 5y agoPfizer had to ask for legal immunity because their own data showed their vaccine was linked to 1200 deaths in the first 90 days alone.

- barbacoa 5y agoThe FDA was forced to release the adverse reaction report that Pfizer sent due to losing a FOIA lawsuit https://phmpt.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/5.3.6-postmarketing-experience.pdf https://phmpt.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/5.3.6-postmarke... It is claims in Pfizer's own documents that in the first 90 days 42,086 adverse reactions were logged, of which 25,379 were medically confirmed. Pfizer reported that these resulted in 1223 deaths. This was Dec through Feb 2020 before wide scale roll out. We don't know how many doses were given out since that number is redacted by the FDA.
- exotree 5y agoThis doesn’t surprise me at all. I need a flu vaccine every year. We’re just rapidly responding/thinking this is out of the norm because we are trying to wait for our baseline infrastructure for taking care of sick people (nurses, group home staff, etc.) to meet capacity (of course, it might just not!)
- goldenchrome 5y agoIf you're a healthy adult you do not need the flu vaccine. It's only 50% effective anyway. Additionally, there is little to no social pressure to get them. On the other hand, there is IMMENSE social pressure to get the covid shot. I don't want to live in a world where I am required to get two shots a year to remain employed and free to enter grocery stores. Especially since pharmaceutical companies are reliably known to manipulate governments and populations into taking more and more drugs of dubious value.
- GeekyBear 5y agoThere seems to be a widespread desire between much of the media and government to stuff as much public money as possible into their pockets. >Two departing FDA leaders among scientists who say Covid-19 vaccines do not currently 'show a need for boosting' https://www.cnn.com/2021/09/13/health/boosters-not-needed-lancet-review/index.html https://www.cnn.com/2021/09/13/health/boosters-not-needed-la...
- monological 5y agoIt's 2024, Omega variant has just landed, NYTimes screams of societal collapse, Pfizer CEO says 10th booster may be needed. Meanwhile Standford researchers reiterate that the "fatality rates for those < 70 years ranges from 0.00% to 0.31%, with crude and corrected medians of 0.05%"[0]. And that study is from before the vaccine was even globally administered. How much lower is it now? Clearly the virus has become endemic and this is just a money grab. - Spivak 5y agoLet’s ignore that almost 800,000 people have died of the vid in the US since you consider those acceptable losses. There are non-death outcomes that you should be worried about — the scariest one to me is that all food will taste rotten. A close friend of mine was unlucky enough to have it happen to her. She’s now dangerously underweight, suicidal, and is narrowly avoiding a feeding tube. Her Doctors say it will probably go away with time but they’re really just guessing. Her daily routine is forcing down the highest calorie milkshake she can make and just suffering through the exhaustion and hunger because eating is worse.
- raxxorrax 5y agoIn the US there are annually 250,000 people dying from treatment errors. Those are apparently acceptable losses too, which could be vastly eliminated by better funding and work distribution. This number is based on a questionable extrapolation and may be exaggerated, but the point remains. Of course we still continue with conventional medicine despite the negatives. But I think we should talk about about how we let Covid fears dictate our lives. I mean it is still a far better balance sheet than the fight against terror, but at some point reflection is needed.
