Hard to judge but I would recommend to think nothing of it. Perhaps that is just their common demeanor. I would assume that he just tried to be polite and tried to smile. Some people do not look too sympathetic while doing so. Never was asked such a question, but often these are meant to test your honesty. If that was the case you probably passed since you put it into perspective.
