As they stated themselves, the risk to kids from Covid is almost completely negligible. The argument of long term effects are speculation and there is no real basis to believe that.
To be honest, this whole text sounds extremely paranoid, bordering on a pathological condition. Being protective of young children is all good, they can be lucky that parents are that engaged.
People that project or build stigma around these health issues aren't worth to be around with. Imagine how freeing it would be to blow their sanctimonious self-righteousness back into their faces. A conflict, but a necessary one at some point and you don't need to escalate it of course, just state your opinion. But setting a border is necessary, otherwise we would keep getting more and more restrictive policies.
People quick with judgement are not out to keep everyone healthy, they do it for their own reasons in the vast majority of cases. At some point you have to return the favor.
> really do need to update our policies for a COVID-endemic world
The same rules we had before. Health is primarily something you need to care for yourself (public healthcare is another question and very sensible but doesn't touch this argument). Living with the disease is accepting usual day to day risks. For younger people it is basically an irrelevant risk. Older people need support, but it cannot be with the ridiculous rules of today and scrap your testing idea right there. Important stats are how many clinics are under huge pressure from cases.
If you socialize in any capacity, you take a risk of getting infected. I tease people that gave me a cold, but blaming them is stupid, everyone has spread a cold to someone at this point, mainly without even noticing.
What about the people that don't even have symptoms? Do you have a right to restrict them? I don't think you do, but you are free to not engage with them to minimize your personal risk. In my opinion the data for kids, regardless of the Covid variant, would warrant to let them live just as before. People susceptible to the disease need to take precaution themselves. Perhaps society is obligated to pay for their medical attention, I personally believe so, but the risk is plainly not large enough to keep everyone at home. At least not after this wave and winter.
