New variant classed 'of concern' and named Omicron
- h2odragon 5y agoWasn't it "Nu" earlier this morning? Fast focus group research? "Omicron" certainly sounds sexier and more Sci-Fi and ominously Decipticon-ish. "Nu" was just too cutesy and "New Coke" like, who could take that seriously? So far all the stories are "how you should be breathlessly terrified" again without much in the way of "because its actually scary". And the unity of the media here... They all attended the same service this morning and learned a new catechism.
- 1cvmask 5y agoWhat puzzles me is how they went from Delta to Omicron. I would have bet on Epsilon, not that I have an iota of money riding on it. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greek_alphabet https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greek_alphabet
- david_allison 5y agoEpsilon's no longer a variant of interest.[0] The WHO are going through the alphabet in order (skipping Nu and Xi).[1] [0] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SARS-CoV-2_Epsilon_variant https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SARS-CoV-2_Epsilon_variant [1] https://www.who.int/en/activities/tracking-SARS-CoV-2-variants/ https://www.who.int/en/activities/tracking-SARS-CoV-2-varian...
