There's a big lesson here about Publish or Perish. Science today is extremely difficult because you can't do science while having to be productive as quickly as possible. It's like asking an artist to sit at their desk from 9 to 5 every day and produce at least 5 Great Works of Art per year.
- burntoutfire 5y agoThat's how it's done in Civilization game series :D Which shows that they're basically almost a parody of the actual civilizations.
- marcosdumay 5y agoIf Civilization was as random as real life, nobody would want to play it. Personally, I think it peaked at Civ II, exactly because after it every game tries to be more realistic than the previous ones.
- burntoutfire 5y agoThe biggest discrepancy is not lack of randomness, but complete omission of the fact that it's people who make or break systems which are in the game. The reality of being a leader of anything is that your biggest headache is finding capable people under you and keeping them motivated and aligned with your goals. Whereas in the game everything just works like a clockwork. BTW, Crusader Kings II is closer to reality in this regard.
