Chinese police execute corgi with crowbar for zero Covid
- foolzcrow 5y agoCNN worked hard to help create this dystopia.
- literallyaduck 5y agoI wonder how many humans have been "dealt with immediately" in the name of zero covid.
- PaulHoule 5y agoThat's why pros put down animals with a Barbiturate injection or a bullet. Try to kill a dog with a bludgeon and you will either fail to do it or wake up with nightmares for the next few months. Maybe both. Even the bullet takes some knowledge. A stupid cop in a small town near here once emptied his service revolver on a cow that was "menacing" the high school and had to call a farmer to finish the job with a shotgun. That's one situation where you get better results capturing the animal with a bucket of grain and a rope.
- h2odragon 5y agoTheir title is "The killing of a corgi shows how government power has grown unchecked in China in the name of Covid prevention" Makes me feel something new has been added to the propaganda punchbowl. It's now permissible to talk about COVID in domestic and wild animals, then? there was the Feb 2020 HK dog case, and this the other day: First Covid-19 case in pet dog confirmed by vet https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-59246304 https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-59246304
- detaro 5y ago> It's now permissible to talk about COVID in domestic and wild animals, then? ... when has that not been permissible? It's in no way a new topic.
- h2odragon 5y agoIt has not been well covered in the media until recently; which is odd compared to how much coverage anything else that can be marginally tied to COVID gets.
- detaro 5y agoJust of the top of my head: That cats can get it was a thing really early, the occasional instance at a zoo gets reporting, we had the entire mink-thing, and the fallout from the minks, it's in the discussions of where covid comes from, then there was deer, ... It feels very disingenuous to claim that this wasn't "permissible" to talk about.
- mrlonglong 5y agoI really hope that wasn't one of the Queen's corgis otherwise it's war!
- dirtyid 5y agoAlready clickbait headline: >"The killing of a corgi shows how government power has grown unchecked in China in the name of Covid prevention" Editorialized on HN into: >"Chinese police execute corgi with crowbar for zero Covid" It's not Chinese police, they're covid prevention workers employed by local gov who has authority to put down privately owned animals due to public safety. Which is standard not overreach. The drama here is the animal wasnt' tested before being inhumanely euthenized. Of course would be better if pets can be brought to quarantine like Shanghai or at least have trained vets on staff to euthenize. Overall it's a pretty minor administrative mess up. > The so-called debate around 'animal rights' is merely a camouflage -- the issue at heart here has always been the wanton infringement of individual (rights) by the endlessly expanding state power," a comment on Chinese social media site Douban said. Western MSM picking juicy quotes from ignorant netizens to show somehow Chinese statepower is expanding by... being in alignment with western statepower. Not to mention killing personal pets is so low on priority of "state power", a dogwhistle fo centrlized power / CCP, that such duties are typically delegated to lower levels like municiple govs around the world.
