Don't like it? Organizations like the EFF have been working to stop overreach:

You can help financially, and contact each of your representatives and senators and request they act to stop this end run around the constitution.
- TeeMassive 5y agoUpvote for the EFF. They really are the heroes of digital time. And they stayed true to their mission amidst the woke wave other organizations have been swayed with.
- boppo1 5y agoI gave them $100 and about a year later they saved youtube-dl. Soon as I'm actually making money again, they'll get some.
- dmead 5y agoIs this over reach? Seems like it would be good for the treasury to go after tax dodgers and money launderers.
- mattrighetti 5y agoThey have other means that won’t have an impact on everyone when it’s not necessary
- raxxorrax 5y agoDestroying confidentiality of data on the net is a greater cost than getting small time tax evaders. The brunt of tax evasion is legal and fully a legislative issue.
- user3939382 5y agoI used to be a big EFF supporter until I learned they take millions in donations from the same organizations they’re supposed to be watching. Best case scenario it’s a massive conflict of interest, it’s a big problem for me that they find it to be ok.
- jakecopp 5y agoI hadn't heard this before, could you provide a source or examples?
- robbedpeter 5y agohttps://donations.vipulnaik.com/donee.php?donee=Electronic+Frontier+Foundation https://donations.vipulnaik.com/donee.php?donee=Electronic+F... Nothing looks particularly nefarious.
- stjohnswarts 5y agoThat's a mighty big claim. Do you have similar scale supportive references?
- user3939382 5y agoHere’s a start but you can dig for more https://news.bloomberglaw.com/tech-and-telecom-law/facebook-google-donate-heavily-to-privacy-advocacy-groups https://news.bloomberglaw.com/tech-and-telecom-law/facebook-...
- math_and_stuff 5y agoThis is an irresponsible claim if not backed up with a citation. Further, I happen to monitor corporate funding to nonprofits (including the EFF) and public reporting suggests EFF only received $7500 from Google in 2018 and $25K from Facebook. Whereas Center for Democracy and Technology, which was founded by the former Executive Director of the EFF in 1994, received $430K and $500K, respectively. - hhaha88 5y agoWho is working to stop corporate overreach? I don’t really understand why the species should put its faith in industrialist billionaires given the history.
- Spooky23 5y agoGreat point. Insurance companies have access to way more private data than the government.
