IoT Bolts
- vipa123 5y agoIf you build it, they will come.
- jmathai 5y agoI'm not familiar with this space but it's hard to wrap my head around the vast number of use cases that something like this could have.
- bsder 5y agoAgree with the humor. A lot of the problem in IoT is that anyone who cares is already monitoring. So, you need to find someone who cares to implement monitoring, has money to implement monitoring, but doesn't already have monitoring in place. It's a small window. Even worse, many companies who could benefit don't want to know. Knowledge brings certain legal liability--ignorance can be argued around.
- yodelshady 5y agoI like it. It sounds very silly, very IoT-all-the-things, but I've without question seen situations where they'd be worth the investment and then some. Could pose some organisations an interesting dilemma, where to draw the line for the extra expense.
- buescher 5y agoOmega used to sell load bolts that were basically a hollow bolt with a strain gauge inside. Sort of like this: https://tml.jp/e/product/strain_gauge/btm_list.html#:~:text=series%20BTM%2FBTMC-,Bolt%20strain%20gauge%20series%20BTM%2FBTMC,mounted%20on%20the%20bolt%20surface https://tml.jp/e/product/strain_gauge/btm_list.html#:~:text=.... If you need that kind of thing, a wireless version would be great. I'm torn between kicking myself for not having thought of it and skepticism over the size of their market. Here are their US patents: https://patents.google.com/patent/US10066930B2 https://patents.google.com/patent/US10066930B2 https://patents.google.com/patent/US11149777B2 https://patents.google.com/patent/US11149777B2
- kordlessagain 5y agoThis is nuts.
- IshKebab 5y agoLooks like a neat idea. How is it powered?
- buescher 5y agoIf it's not powered by a coin cell or cells, I'll be very surprised. Maybe a tiny rechargeable lithium pack? Do they make them that small?
