I did significantly raise my salary by mentioning having a high offer from a competitor. Although I guess you're talking about negotiating at a new job, not the old one.
- dogma1138 5y agoRetention is another beast, the issue is that it can also backfire even if they offer to match they might be looking for your replacement already especially if you are a “key employee”. And if they don’t then you really have to be ready to leave. Overall I personally try to avoid leveraging offers and make a case based on my performance and the current market.
- WithinReason 5y agoI did this about 4 years ago and had no negative consequences. I think my market value is reflected by other offers I can get, no? It's normal that companies compete for employees on a job market.
