How Journalism Abandoned the Working Class
- raxxorrax 5y agoPretty much on point in my opinion. But I don't think journalists defend an elite class with conviction, some truly believe the stuff they espouse, some others are opportunists and want to generate clicks, but woke carries a lot of rationalization for improving your self image. Whether that is truly as self-less as this article presents it to be is open to discussion. But the contemporary journalist believer just feels better than to defend common humanitarianism and concepts like color-blindness and most importantly doesn't accept it anymore. No no no, he is far more enlightened than that and has to fix peoples bias now. Problem is that the concepts don't hold up under scrutiny, even if people just deflect criticism with pointing to equally contemporary literature. That he himself misread it fundamentally is of no concern. But many people already read between the lines some outlets netted pretty decent shitstorms when they overdid it. As long as it doesn't become personal, I believe this is fully justified backlash. Guess the plan to demonstrate reactionary powers in which they are the subject themselves didn't help too much. Still not a hint of shame for past and current propaganda. My favorite newspaper has partially woke content, but they write longer articles where they can hide messages that the usual twitter users won't read anyway and some people are indeed aware of developments, freely quoted: Hey, we do this because readers expect emotional validation.
