DES (Digital Electronic Slurry) is a competing technology to E-Ink. It supports fairly high color depth and is relatively cheap. I had heard previously on HN that there were competing technologies but I never knew of a concrete example.

  Is it also patent hell or is there a chance for diverse market with competition? Device looks nice in pictures but not exactly what I'm looking for so I hope others can come up with different devices.

    Patents aren't the issue here, its not with e-ink. Its the lack of willing by the patent holders to license.

      It might not be the only issue, but it is clearly part of it - if there was no patent in the first place we wouldn't be discussing their unwillingness to license.

    In my case they even told me that "someone in France has just bought this 8 minutes ago, hurry up!". Despite the fact they do not ship to France. This website is a scam. And for some reason made HN frontpage...

The lack of technical information on the site is staggering. Who will put that amount of cash with no clear specs shown right off the start? Or am I missing a button or section because I’m browsing from an ipad? Getting that more often these days.
