I've been a vegetarian my whole life yet find this argument nonsensical. The animals being poached are in many cases on the verge of extinction, the animals raised on industrial farms are not. While I do find the idea of killing animals abhorrent the industrial process is significantly more humane than what happens to poached animals, which are typically left to slowly bleed to death or are permanently maimed.

Or live 100% free, might die naturally, might be poached latter in life but are a pussy worried about bleeding out? Obviously we execute many infants and children in the vegetarian livestock world. But they are males commonly, like in dairy and eggs. And again on HN dead male children don't count. Boko Haram massacres and sends to die in battle an order of magnitude more boys. And the Bacha bazi sex boys of Afghanistan.... don't talk about them. Poaching feeds and educates a family for a year, you also get out and exercise poaching and take personal risk in a world of poverty which the West doesn't care about. Industrial farming feeds fat rich Americans more lazy food. Poaching does ruin tourism so it does need to be fought. It costs poor people money, which in these communities is lives.
