When they lie, do they say they are a non-white model minority ?
- hasmolo 5y agothese details are in the text and an info-graphic in the article itself. that said, it's mostly 'safe' minorities, with few claiming to be Black or other 'hard to pass' minorities.
- matheusmoreira 5y agoThey say they self-identify as a minority, often due to sociocultural reasons.
- toyg 5y agoThe worship of self-identification is effectively gutting words of any meaning.
- matheusmoreira 5y agoYup. They invented this "social construct" concept. This is obviously vulnerable to abuse. They have no choice but to accept it now. Either they accept it or they will be forced to admit that it is not a social construct.
- gambiting 5y agoYep, you can be white and still a part of minority(disabled, immigrant, based on religion etc...)
- seanmcdirmid 5y agoAlso, white hispanic isn’t uncommon at all.
- seanmcdirmid 5y agoFrom the article, seems like Native American is common. That kind of makes sense for the USA, as a lot of us have heard of a great great grand daddy who was from some tribe or another, but the stories turn out to either be anecdotal (not verifiable) or so diluted that it feels wrong to claim the connection. Elizabeth Warren got into a bit of trouble on this. It isn’t an uncommon problem, and I can see people admitting to lying here (even if they think there is a bit of truth to the claim).
- C19is20 5y agoIs 'self admitting' a thing (grammatically)?
- seanmcdirmid 5y agoYes, but not in this context, edited.
- chitowneats 5y agoI assume you are referring to Asian Americans, but I can't even begin to imagine why. https://asianamericanforeducation.org/en/issue/discrimination-on-admissions/ https://asianamericanforeducation.org/en/issue/discriminatio...
