I made this mistake. I did undergrad research instead of internships in school and was sure I wanted to do a PhD -- until my final semester. I ultimately wound up having to do a much worse internship than I would've gotten partnered with my school. It took me nearly three months to find it. Big mistake that I recommend anyone in University reading this right now to avoid. Diversify your experiences!
