  Look at real estate prices in the Los Angeles metro area. That's not enough.

    It's well more than the median income in the area. People are taking jobs that pay less. So it clearly has more to do with other factors like the work conditions or training requirements or such. Companies not willing to pay for training is a common story...

  I'm sure there are people that might lobby that 80-100k/year in Long Beach qualifies as minimum wage with housing prices! Ha.

  I don't think that is the norm. If you search for dock worker jobs in Long Beach, you see $30-50K advertised.
