What is rational? Living till 80 and abstain from many pleasures or living till 70 with heavy indulgence? I don't think we can say that there is a pure rational case to either choice. The axiom is to maximize health here, but it doesn't have to be. It might also not be a lack of long term planning as abstinence might lead to more regret later. There are addictions of course which certainly lead to irrational behavior under most definitions.
