No wonder pupils don't have respect for teachers, they might just simply don't deserve any. Teaching kids and normalizing being surveilled is a far greater threat than suicide. I doubt this was a teacher too proficient in math, but that is dwarfed completely by the pedagogical failure.
Glad not every country follows through with this strategy. Metal detectors at school, complete surveillance? The ways people go through to evade being mindful of their own children. Not your intention teaches kids, it is your behavior and in this case also you fears.
> schools spent billions of dollars on security infrastructure
Phew, someone could have wasted that on education. Software companies that supply such software should just be ashamed of themselves if they enable such misbehavior.
> have started questioning whether their contracts with the police create more harm than good
better late than never people say... But in this case some form of warning signal should have sounded in the head of everyone taking part of the implementation of policing kids.
A sensible Guardian piece which have become rarer. Some things in the US just remind me of tragicomedy with focus on the tragic part. Just waiting on the funny part were any sensible guy hits administrators and software companies with a flat hand on their heads.
