Turning shipping containers into three-bed turn-key homes for less than 75k
- db48x 5y agoShipping containers make terrible homes. You can buy a manufactured or modular house for less, and it will be more comfortable.
- anovikov 5y agoMoreover, housing problem is not at all about construction costs. Looking at costs of construction 100 years ago, inflation-adjusted it's lower today, if it was about that, there wouldn't be any housing problem. Housing problem is about livelihoods of too many people, most of them approaching retirement so no longer capable of changing much in their fate, being dependent on value of their homes, so in a democratic nation, they would fight tooth and nail to prevent construction of more of them, limiting supply. It is an entirely man-made problem and the one with no obvious "evil" culprit to blame for... Entirely unsolvable. Solving it would require taking measures to ensure that homes will never be good investments again - turning them into just a durable good like say, a car, which deprecates as soon as you buy it, until it's worthless. Then no one will be against new construction - because new construction means more workers and more consumers in the area -> good for business - and housing problem will be quickly resolved. Irony is - this is not what young people want. They don't want to own homes, to live in them. They want to own homes to make money on their appreciation. This, is simply not going to happen.
