This is either a lie or a heavy misconception; my Quest 2 (the first Oculus headset to "require" a Facebook account; none of the others do), didn't require a Facebook account, and works even with Oculus accounts made within the month.
- Ensorceled 5y agoI have an Oculus Go that I logged into last week that I hadn't used in months. There were a lot of dark patterns trying to get me to use a facebook login but I finally figured out how to use my original Oculus account. Falling for shitty dark patterns doesn't earn being called a liar; take the victim blaming somewhere else.

- blensor 5y agoCarmack just announced that they will unlock the bootloader of the go to allow root access and give the owners full control. As for the Quest, you can buy a Facebook free version for about twice the price of the standard one
- krageon 5y agoIt's supposedly 500 dollars more and that's excluding the fact that they will bill that in euros if you live in the EU. That makes it almost three times as expensive.
