- lordnacho 5y agoOT, but I see a lot of these archive links here. How do I go the other way? If I see an article I want to read, how do I find it on archive.is?
- gradschoolfail 5y agoGoto https://archive.is/ https://archive.is/ Enter your url in the second field If that doesnt turn up anything enter it in the first
- bobthechef 5y agoYou don't have to bother with the second field, I think. Just enter into the first.
- lordnacho 5y agoGotta be a browser extension that does this for you?
- ceilingcorner 5y agoTrump-supporting tech mogul First sentence of the article is inaccurate. Thiel was a supporter in 2016 but was uncertain in 2020. Why is The NY Times considered quality journalism, again?
- bobthechef 5y ago> Why is The NY Times considered quality journalism, again? Who thinks that? As far as I can tell, it has always been a glorified lifestyle magazine and a tawdry mouthpiece for American oligarchy. (Though it has become shamelessly blatant in its methods in recent years.)
- ceilingcorner 5y agohttps://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Newspaper_of_record https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Newspaper_of_record * A newspaper of record is a major newspaper with large circulation whose editorial and news-gathering functions are considered authoritative. It may also refer to a newspaper that has been authorised to publish public or legal notices, thus serving as a newspaper of public record.* * The New York Times Building in New York City, United States; some meanings of the term "newspaper of record" originated in reference to The New York Times.* It was once the preeminent newspaper in America.

- Chris2048 5y ago> Thiel had developed a reputation for being both “brilliant” and “vindictive,” > he had used his enormous fortune to bankroll Hulk Hogan’s relentless lawsuit against the website Gawker, driving the site and its owner to bankruptcy > “I mean, aren’t you worried he’ll, like, come after you?” oh fuck off. Thiel may have bankrolled that "relentless" lawsuit for personal reasons, but they lost because they were in the wrong - exhibiting the same hubris and disregard of harm to their subjects that they arguably treated Thiel to when they outed him. Gawker ignored a court order that got them sued, but no, it's Thiels fault they got punished. This is simply a case of two victims with a perpetrator in common. To suggest this makes Thiel "vindictive" is to conveniently ignore Gawkers malice.
- jmeister 5y agoThis review on Amazon (found via Tyler Cowen) has more insight on Thiel’s “core” than anything that has been written in mainstream media: https://www.amazon.com/gp/customer-reviews/R3PSWXNTHIHYNB/ https://www.amazon.com/gp/customer-reviews/R3PSWXNTHIHYNB/
- boardwaalk 5y agoAfter reading about half of that I’m more curious about what kind of person would bother to follow Thiel closely enough to write a Amazon review like that than Thiel himself. I guess I just don’t find rich people that interesting or much more than just people.
