This is a good article, mainly for highlighting that if kids are falling off of the development track, we see worse outcomes, and more boys than girls are falling off of the track. My take-aways were: * Education needs to be more than a college assembly line * Better role-modeling is needed for working class careers, so they can see a future besides dying industries in coal and oil * A fragile hope people realize these changes will help all genders, not just the boys where we see the effects most strongly

I think the corporate culture that is highlighted today and whose rules are more prominently enforced in other venues of life is extremely off-putting for most people. And you even have people advertising professionalism. I don't understand how you can be so hostile to life... The latter is needed if there is a common goal to achieve and when that goal is clear you get acceptance for the necessity and people compromise. So it is on companies to make that goal clear. If not, people make their own social order and abandon the current one. A lot of people didn't vote for Trump because they place their hopes in him, they just didn't think this current explanation has anything to do with reality. Then they are told it is the Russians. It wasn't an elaborate lie, but the means it was enforced certainly is unattractive for anyone. So where is the invoice for that? Debts don't vanish. At that point I even would encourage non-compliance. > Teens go through a period of increased emotional fluctuation [...] “Bad idea. Don’t post that on Facebook because it might hurt my chances of getting a job [...]” The problem isn't teens in this case. It is the people that make it a reality that a posting on Facebook can indeed cost them their job. Slowly HR is adapting and extend that pleasure to those that use social media posts in such ways. Journalism might be an exception here due to the nature of its work.
