Men Pay a Higher Price Than Women When a Workplace Joke Falls Flat
- BitwiseFool 5y agoEvery joke is a risk. Jokes are, at their very core, a violation of expectation. So whenever one is made there is a risk of rejection and offense being taken.
- raxxorrax 5y agoMeanwhile personified risks are those that make it an issue, even if they misunderstood a joke.
- KGNKNGQ 5y agoWho would have known.
- asebold 5y agoAnd women pay a higher price at work on, everything else. 18 cents to the dollar actually. Cry me a river wsj. Sheesh.
- salawat 5y agoThat's a failure to negotiate, information asymmetry, and a "Human Resources departments will never, ever pay or suggest a higher price than you stipulate, and spend a copious amounts of time pre-filtering candidates for a job title to the going rate at another company" problem. Nobody goes "let's knock 18 cents an hour off because they have 2 X chromosomes". If they do, they hide it so well I haven't managed to figure out where they sneak that in as a nosy arse hiring manager.
