How can a medical treatment become so political? Requiring lawyers to enforce stopping or starting ivermectin treatment?
- belltaco 5y agoBecause saying and doing the opposite of what the govt(FDA/CDC) recommend is fashionable in some circles. Ivermectin and HCQ are pushed as magic cures for Covid to make antivax more palatable. At first CDC said Covid was dangerous? No it's not dangerous at all. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NAh4uS4f78o https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NAh4uS4f78o Recipient of the highest civilian honor in the US with 15 million highly engaged listeners told them covid was just a cold hyped up to hurt the then POTUS politically. https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2020/feb/25/rush-limbaugh-coronavirus-trump https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2020/feb/25/rush-limbaug... Why would there be vaccine uptake if people are led to believe it's not dangerous and there are magic cures for it if they do get it?
- mohanmcgeek 5y agoThe entire world doesn't run on CDC's advice. In both the cases, Indian doctors were administering HCQ/Ivermectin wherever it was necessary and they didn't find it to be a problem. American media then politicised it weeks or months later. I can't think of a reason for why CDC/Media is talking down these medicines which the rest of the countries administer just fine.
- rejectedandsad 5y agoBecause it’s not effective. It’s that simple.
- mohanmcgeek 5y agoThat may be true, we'll know when there's a controlled study. But it wasn't politicised as much when other countries were doing it. People decided that doctors have their best interests in mind and they would do everything they can to save them. Also the media in other countries were not running disingenuous stories calling them fish tank cleaners and horse dewormers. Looks like people have a huge distrust of American media/CDC and that's their own doing.
- rejectedandsad 5y agoProbably because a lot of people are taking veterinary formulations, which you shouldn’t do because they are designed for horses! We have perfectly functioning vaccines and monoclonal antibody treatments you don’t need to get sketchy prescriptions or horse anti-parasitics!
- nradov 5y agoIf you're so sure it's not effective then why is the NIH sponsoring the ACTIV-6 clinical trial? https://www.nih.gov/research-training/medical-research-initiatives/activ/covid-19-therapeutics-prioritized-testing-clinical-trials https://www.nih.gov/research-training/medical-research-initi...
- rejectedandsad 5y agoThey study everything as they should. Normal people should just get the vaccine and go on with their normal lives.
- nradov 5y agoJust go on with their lives? Are you suggesting that vaccination alone is sufficient and that normal people should ignore additional simple steps they can take to reduce their risk? Seems rather cavalier, at least for those in higher risk groups. https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1080/10408398.2020.1841090 https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1080/10408398.2020.1... https://bjsm.bmj.com/content/early/2021/07/21/bjsports-2021-104203 https://bjsm.bmj.com/content/early/2021/07/21/bjsports-2021-...
- rejectedandsad 5y ago> Are you suggesting that vaccination alone is sufficient and that normal people should ignore additional simple steps they can take to reduce their risk Yes
- whatthesmack 5y agoIndia would like a word with you about that.
- cameldrv 5y agoThat is unknown because the randomized trials that have been done so far have been too small to show an effect at a p<.05 level. They have generally shown a positive effect for ivermectin though and thus the need for a big trial to settle the matter. There are a couple of big trials in progress so hopefully we will have some more clarity on this soon.
- Jimmc414 5y agoRespectfully, you are incorrect. Look at the data. COVID-19 early treatment: real-time analysis of 912 studies https://c19early.com https://c19early.com
- moistly 5y agoIndia also had people promoting cow urine as a cure, so maybe you’d want to take their treatment advice with a grain of salt. https://www.msn.com/en-gb/video/viral/controversial-ayurvedic-clinic-in-western-india-offers-cow-urine-as-covid-19-treatment/vi-BB1gOZYh https://www.msn.com/en-gb/video/viral/controversial-ayurvedi... https://www.timesnownews.com/india/article/have-cow-urine-to-stay-healthy-bjp-dilip-ghoshs-advise-to-fight-corona/623014 https://www.timesnownews.com/india/article/have-cow-urine-to...

- slater 5y agoBecause bloviating/posturing against the advice and knowledge of scientists who have dedicated their lives to studying diseases is part of the anti-education playbook that the loudest and under-educated of the populace have hitched their wagon to. "might makes right", "those eggheads are being paid by big pharma" etc. etc. etc. Tedious lack of education, sadly leading to preventable deaths.
- hulitu 5y agoWhen the politicians blatantly contradict the advice of medical professionals all you get is propaganda. Good luck fighting back. This already happend in a lot of countries and has lead (together with Dr. Google) to an undermining of medical profession. I'm not saying that the doctors are all angels but, when you rely on politicians for medical advice, you get what you paid for.
