The 'free market' should do the right thing per capitalist economics and start paying its employees higher to meet the scarcity. Instead of trying to make government force people to go back to work for dimes. While getting bailed out by trillion dollar bailouts.
But naturally, capitalism is for the people. The corporations keep socialism for themselves.
- josephcsible 5y agoGovernments giving free money to people who can work but choose not to is the opposite of "the right thing per capitalist economics".
- unity1001 5y agoGovernments are supposed to take care of the society during times of need, especially catastrophes, wars, pandemics. If the 'free market' is collapsing because people are getting some few hundred dollars stipend in the middle of a pandemic to let them be able to buy food, then free market should collapse because it is utterly defunct. There are no two ways about that.
- josephcsible 5y ago> Governments are supposed to take care of the society during times of need, especially catastrophes, wars, pandemics. The free money made sense for that reason during, e.g., April 2020, when almost every business was closed and jobs weren't available. But once the jobs became available again, not so much.
- unity1001 5y agoPandemic goes on, people dying everywhere, 30 million without healthcare, even tests costs money. People dont want to risk their lives for dimes. That's the gist of it. In a civilized country, nobody would be working for a few hundred dollars and then trying to gather a few hundred more via 'tips' and still not be able to manage to feed their family with 2 adults working. In US, that's the case. This pandemic has just broke the already dysfunctional service sector which leeched on its customers and food stamps for its employees to be able to stay afloat to maximize its profits
- imtringued 5y agoThe idea is quite simple, when you give money to people with no income money they spend it which then makes other people work who then have money who then can spend money to hire the person that was originally receiving the free money. It's only a temporary measure. Nobody ever thought that it should stay this way forever.
- josephcsible 5y ago> who then can spend money to hire the person that was originally receiving the free money There's plenty of people who can already spend money to hire the person that was originally receiving the free money. The problem is that the people receiving the free money would rather keep doing that than take a job. > It's only a temporary measure. Nobody ever thought that it should stay this way forever. I have seen a lot of people saying it should stay this way forever, though. But anyway, when should we end it then?
- imtringued 5y agoIt's also absurd how people are asking for more "free market" in a time where corporations are fucking up massively. Corporate mismanagement is at an all time high. Their supply chains aren't breaking down because of the lockdown, they broke down because they wanted them to break down. Car manufacturers cut silicon orders because of extreme short term thinking. If they were right it would have saved them maybe one quarter of inventory. If they are wrong they would lose multiple quarters of sales. That bet was so stupid yet they all took it. Just think about it from this perspective. Your factory overproduces cars for 1 years and you end up with too much inventory but you can then cut production whenever you want. You are in power. Meanwhile if you cut production you have to do it now, which reverses the situation. You are dependent on others to speed up their production. Suppliers are in power and they remember how you abandoned them.
- unity1001 5y agoIm not asking for free market at all. It was a comment that demonstrated the hypocrisy of the religion of holistic economics. Aka the 'market god'.
