What If the Coronavirus Crisis Is Just a Trial Run?

- hakfoo 5y agoOne interesting comparison would be the after-WWII order. There was basically one industrial power standing with minimal ground damage. Much of the post-WWII economic boom can be traced to this opportunity. I'm surprised we haven't seen the Coronavirus vaccination program framed in the same way. The countries that vaccinate fast and completely can get back to work quickly, while their competitors may spend months or years trying to get back up to speed.
- raxxorrax 5y agoI don't think this is how it works and there won't be a correlation. My country got completely bombed in WW2 and it gave way to an immense economic rise. Sure, helped by animosity of the cold war. But looking into the motivation behind that rise might give insight in what is really important for economic success. Something central bank policies undermine.
- vanusa 5y agoOh it's definitely a trial run, for the various disruptions to come from climate change. Y'all just wait.
- raxxorrax 5y agoIt wasn't just finance that furthered polarization, although inequality certainly plays a role. I think some writers might get a beating from Santa Clause too. And this article makes the usual mistakes. It celebrates spending and debts, completely ignoring the dire consequences for the many people that worked hard to have a little reserve. As if the author delights that people jump on the suicide train. Continuing these policies would mean that work is worth nothing, goods are worth nothing. Someone can just randomly create money and give it to the most holy ones. This is not a sustainable society at all. Only if enough people are dumb enough to buy it. To be honest, chances aren't that bad. But why shouldn't I just print my own money then? Maybe crypto currency is the way to go then, because this tightly knit community will turn hostile to everyone at some point. It is inevitable. I would prefer to face the reality that my state might just be broke. Because this is certainly not a desirable alternative. Because what is advocated here isn't just having ab unlimited budget where some institution take care people don't indulge themselves too much, it advocates that this budget is carefully distributed to people most in line or by buying "the left". The only check and balance would be the competition between these central banks. How long if they are that tightly knit? Those will slowly become completely dysfunktional. One can only hope that we don't have to trade natural goods at some point. The ECB broke all the rules it was meant honor at some point. To keep the casino going. I don't think that will work for too long.
