  The studies done were small and of low quality. Further the Elgazzar study which showed the most positive outlook was retracted for fraud and plagiarism.

  Yes ivermectin has been shown to inhibit SARS-CoV-2 replication in vitro. We just don't have conclusive evidence yet on whether or not it's an effective clinical treatment.   Ivermectin used in a single-drug treatment regime has not shown significant benefits in a number of RCTs. However there is promising evidence of significant benefits when Ivermectin is used as part of a multi-drug treatment regime [1]. Ivermectin is a small molecule drug which binds to chloride channels. We don't have definitive evidence one way or another whether it's an effective COVID-19 treatment.
