Bakersfield housing is expensive for the region. The salaries here, in my opinion, cannot keep up with this recent rise in prices.

Right, so build more single family home. Why would Bakersfield need condo towers and high density?

Bad for the environment, and why we're dependent on foreign oil.

The US imports very little foreign oil now. We're not dependent. https://www.eia.gov/tools/faqs/faq.php?id=727&t=6 https://www.eia.gov/tools/faqs/faq.php?id=727&t=6

Covid won't last forever. But ecars growing should have an effect.

An end to single family zoning doesn't imply condo towers everywhere. The most common type of unit that you would see is a two family home, as people convert their basements, second floors or back yards into income generating units. This simple change would create a meaningful increase in housing availability.
