I feel that much of the lack of a feeling of urgency comes from people not grasping the inertia and scale of things. I remember when covid started out and there was all those expectations on emissions going down. I got the feeling that some people thought that if we stopped "doing things" emissions would go down to almost zero and if emissions would go down to zero then the problem would be gone almost instantaneously.
