- colordrops 5y agoAnd that's all it ever was, perceived differentiation. They were never truly concerned with privacy ever.
- stjohnswarts 5y agoNot really you were essentially immune to a lot of the ad spying and individual databases that google built up on you to sell to 3rd parties that advertised to you. Also apps were given much less freedom to spy on you or access your on device file. Apple just threw all the good sentiment they built up over google down the shitter and try to convince us otherwise with "think of the children".
- colordrops 5y agoThey've had a backdoor for the FBI even before they started positioning themselves as the privacy company.
- notquitehuman 5y agoIt was easier to dismiss in the past because the evidence to the contrary has been largely circumstantial, of sufficiently dubious origin, or not direct enough for people to accept as proof. They publicly announced a backdoor this time. They can’t un-invent the capability. You can now prove that Apple is lying about its concern for privacy by citing their own website.
- busymom0 5y agoWhat makes it even weirder is that just couple months ago, everyone was praising Apple for their whole "Privacy" ads when they announced iOS 15 with the do not track defaults. I even think that Apple would have faced less backpack over this CSAM stuff if they hadn't used the "privacy" shtick just couple months ago.
- benhurmarcel 5y agoThe whole reason why they come up with that complicated on-device scan instead of simply scanning their server is because they are trying to push e2ee, on the contrary.
