Can Fake Accounts Save the Internet?
- raxxorrax 5y agoThe UK petition to end online anonymity doesn't really speak for the education of those who signed. Especially not for the initiator, although the deed that brought her to this misstep is certainly horrendous, the solution is not really feasible. I think the only solution for those wanting to end anonymity is to found a platform where it isn't possible to be anonymous. > You wouldn’t say that in the real world, why would you say that online? This is a statement from someone that is enraged and wants to hold "someone" accountable. And I don't think it is too important on who that should be. It is a problem with the sender of that message. > Hey, protect us from anonymous trolls. Anyone on the planet can do this. Complete equality here. > The desire for semi-anonymity shares one concern: control. A troll wants control over who knows what about him; a master-of-the-universe type wants to decide what gets stuck to the family name; a young person needs a space to figure things out; an older person needs a space to change. That doesn't apply uniquely to trolls or "master-of-the-universe"-types. On the contrary, those that strive for control want to know about others. The endings of these NYT articles about anonymity need some revising. Its financiers don't like anonymity for very practical reasons. While a troll wants to be anonymous, he needs to know how to get a rise out of people.
