Why does the Federal Aviation Administration get to define who's an astronaut anyway?
Anybody can define anything. And while I have no opinion on whether Bezos and Branson specifically should be considered astronauts, the FAA definition as described is ridiculously arbitrary.
- bpodgursky 5y agoYeah no idea. I declare Bezos an astronaut. I believe I have equivalent jurisdiction.
- pininja 5y agoNames can change, NACA became NASA. The FAA has been the regulatory body for commercial space activities since 1995, and their focus on space will likely increase overtime rather than developing a new regulator.
