The MAGA-targeted “Freedom Phone” has a breathtaking amount of red flags
- raxxorrax 5y agoSounds like a honey pot to be honest.
- no_time 5y agoI wonder how will the patriots react when they realize their $500 phone doesn't even pass safetynet
- raxxorrax 5y agoSafetynet is a Google scam itself. I hate those banking apps that rely on it and they are the primary reason why I have to use paypal a lot.
- Something1234 5y agoCan you expand on that concept?
- raxxorrax 5y agoIt is an online function from Google where Google checks with elevated privileges if your system isn't rooted, that no custom firmware is installed and the bootloader is locked. Some banking apps require this service to "certify" your device too. Devices that fail this check cannot install some apps via the play store (netflix is a prominent example, don't know if that is still true though). But also some banking apps refuse to launch when the check is failed. Of course it doesn't really say anything about the safety of your device. It is a check that your device really doesn't belong to you and you cannot do everything with it.
- JohnFen 5y agoPerhaps they won't care? My phone won't pass safetynet either. That's no big deal, I'm not really losing anything.
- Hammershaft 5y agoAnother day, another vile grifter gets rich off gullible conservatives.
- krapp 5y agoThey elected a vile grifter into the White House, they reap what they sow.
- alpaca128 5y ago> We built our own app store that is completely uncensored. I wonder how they plan to defend that in court. With the "FreedomOS" they could at least argue that they adapted (reskinned) Android for their purpose. But outright saying they built the renamed Google Play Store combined with the (easily falsifiable) claim that they won't ban any app tells me this scheme isn't intended to last long.

- GoblinSlayer 5y ago>So Freedom Phone either didn't build an app store or is pirating the Google apps. That said, what is an estimated missed profit from pirated Google apps?
