- NavinF 5y agohttps://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ribbon_(computing) https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ribbon_(computing) Microsoft lets any program use that UI: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/win32/windowsribbon/windowsribbon-introduction https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/win32/windowsribbon... I've only seen a few programs take up the offer though. Probably because the style is almost synonymous with MS Office as you've noted
- garaetjjte 5y agoNotably AutoCAD also uses ribbon=style interface, though I'm not sure if they use MS implementation or their own.
- shadilay 5y agoI used AutoCAD a while back and it wasn't the MS ribbon UI but custom.
- pasc1878 5y agoOne point of writing for macos or Windows is to follow the system guidelines. So a good program should look and feel similar to other programs
- thom 5y agoWorth pointing out that ChessBase isn't strictly a game, it's more a research tool aimed at pros and club players. That said, it is a pretty poor UI even for those purposes.
