England’s Covid unlocking is threat to world, say 1,200 scientists
- Proven 5y agoWhen this really mattered (now it almost doesn't), CCP let international flights loaded with Covid19 leave Wuhan for weeks. Where were these geniuses back then? I'll cut them some slack and say 10% of them probably aren't compromised. The rest have conflict of interest or worse.
- romesmoke 5y agoShock-doctrinizing all this fear and--at this point internalized--reluctance towards human contact is a bigger threat. I'm with England on this one, and afraid of the implications that such headlines carry for our fate as a species. P.S. I'm a vaccinated, law-abiding citizen.
- niklasbuschmann 5y agoBut what is the alternative? The situation won’t change from now on, everybody willing is already vaccinated, so any lockdown would have to continue indefinitely.
- fauigerzigerk 5y agoAccording to the article 53.5% of the population is fully vaccinated. That's not everybody who is willing.
- refulgentis 5y agoI'm just an interloper across the pond: is there hard info on the UK not being able to vaccinate all the willing? I'm not convinced by the abstract argument, not because it's necessarily wrong, just because it feels _too_ easy: it was my abstract argument a couple months back
- fauigerzigerk 5y agoOne piece of evidence is right there in the article. The share of people who have received their first dose is nearly 70% while only 53% have received both doses. It's highly implausible that this gap can be explained by vaccine hesitancy. There's clearly a huge number of people still waiting for their second jab. Secondly, lots of people are getting vaccinated every day. If everybody willing had already been vaccinated that number would be zero. And third, no one under 18 has even been offered a vaccine. There's an offcial survey on vaccine hesitancy that shows hesitancy somewhere around 10%: https://www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulationandcommunity/healthandsocialcare/healthandwellbeing/bulletins/coronavirusandvaccinehesitancygreatbritain/26mayto20june2021 https://www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulationandcommunity/healthan...
