Here in the UK we've only just started building the HS2 railway fon London up to Birmingham, bifurcating into two lines beyond towards Manchester and Leeds by the 2030s. These trains will run at 250mph. A far cry from the trains I used to take on the intercity routes years ago that only maxed out at 125mph or 140mph.
