Windows 11 upgrade requires a Trusted Platform Module (TPM) version 2.0
- arduinomancer 5y agoJust as an FYI installing Windows 11 requires a TPM chip on your motherboard. https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/windows-11-specifications#primaryR2 https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/windows-11-specifica... A lot of consumer motherboards don't come with these chips, although some have a header where you can install them. Some motherboards (such as Ryzen compatible) have a firmware TPM implementation that can be enabled.
- po1nter 5y agosome processors have TPM built-in.
- sandman002 5y agoand even if they have to be enabled in uefi, I don't think MS expects the average user to dive through it to enable it. Also why not legacy bios support, I have an old dual core 2ghz Intel 8gb ram perfectly capable but doesn't have uefi support
- brundolf 5y agoI've never heard of TPM, but I bought a Ryzen 5800x and a motherboard to match about six months ago. Is it likely I'll need to add hardware? Or just fiddle with the BIOS? Or will this just work as-is?
- mrlonglong 5y agoTPM is on chip so you'll be fine, just enable it in UEFI
- chiph 5y agoCheck your motherboard manual. Some are already on the board and just need enabling in the BIOS. Some are on a plug-in module (sold separately).
- mrlonglong 5y agoYes, but why is it needed for Windows 11? What does 11 do with it?
- hulitu 5y agoWindows is not trusted so it requires a TPM to be trusted.
- DaiPlusPlus 5y agoRemember Palladium?
- chiph 5y agoThe plug-in TPM module for my motherboard is already sold out.. This is going to be a real problem for upgraders.
